Following consultation last year, the Food Standards Agency (FSA) has now published its best practice allergen guidance for non-prepacked foods, which can be found here.
UKHospitality responded to the consultation at the time with our members, noting the need for the guidance to take a flexible approach, reflecting the wide variety of operating models across the hospitality sector.
We are pleased that the FSA has sought to engage with the sector and has reflected some of this within the guidance.
The guidance outlines how to provide allergen information in writing and supported by a conversation.
Whilst this guidance represents best practice, and implementing all of the recommendations may not be suitable for your business, it is important to note that businesses already have a legal requirement to inform customers if they have used any of the 14 mandated allergens in their food.
