Agenda

  • 9.00am Registration, arrival teas and coffees

  • Allen Simpson, UKHospitality CEO, opens our food seminar by reflecting on the past year of the new Government and reflecting on how food has become a central theme of many of its policies. He will expand on UKHospitality’s engagement with the Government on food policy, and how that will impact hospitality businesses.

  • With the Government embarking on developing a new food strategy, we’re joined by a lead official from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs to outline what the strategy is focusing on, what it hopes to achieve and how hospitality will be recognised.

  • New restrictions on how companies can advertise products high in fat, salt and sugar (HFSS) were officially due to come into effect in October but after several interventions from the advertising regulator and subsequently the Government, the changes are much more nuanced. Our food policy experts bring operators up to speed with what they need to know.

  • With businesses being required to do more and more – from mandatory food reporting to HFSS advertising restrictions – how is hospitality balancing these new demands, running a profitable business and continuing to deliver great experiences for their customers? We’re joined by a panel of industry leaders to discuss how they’re tackling the challenge.

  • Consumers habits are constantly changing and hospitality businesses are having to quickly react and adapt their offering to stay relevant. Are their tastes changing too, and how should food experts ensure their menus are keeping up with the modern consumer?

  • 11.00am Coffee break

  • In a busy hospitality venue, incidents happen. That’s part and parcel of a busy operational environment and serving members of the public – but how you respond to incidents is critical.

Our new Incidents Guide, in partnership with Food Alert, is approved by primary authority to be compliant in every local authority in England, runs through exactly how businesses should respond to all manner of incidents that may take place in their venue – from food safety and preparation to issues with energy and water supply.

  • Enforcement of food safety rules can often be even more impactful for operators as the legislation itself. The Food Standards Agency is seeking views on how to modernise enforcement for food businesses and build dynamism and flexibility into the system.

  • A panel of experts from UKHospitality’s Food Experts Group discuss what hospitality business would like to see from future enforcement, and learnings from other jurisdictions.

  • 1.00pm Lunch

  • 2.00pm Close
